Privacy policy

Te Fare Tauhiti Nui takes the protection of its website visitors’ personal data seriously. This policy explains how your data is collected, used and protected, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR — EU Regulation 2016/679) and the French Data Protection Act of 6 January 1978, as amended.

Data controller

Te Fare Tauhiti Nui — Maison de la Culture
646, Boulevard Pomare, BP 1709 — 98713 Papeʻete, Tahiti
Email: communication.tftn@maisondelaculture.pf

The website is managed on behalf of Te Fare Tauhiti Nui by a service provider, which handles its hosting, maintenance, email sending and audience measurement.

Data collected

We collect the personal data you choose to send us through the website’s forms:

  • Contact form: name, email, subject, message
  • Workshop or event registration: name, email, phone (optional), number of people, message (optional)
  • Event submission: name or organisation, email, phone (optional), details of the proposed event (title, date, venue, description)
  • Newsletter: email address; to keep proof of your agreement, the date and IP address of your sign-up and of its confirmation

We also measure the website’s audience, without cookies (see “Audience measurement” below).

No sensitive data (health, political opinions, religion, etc.) is collected.

Purpose of processing

Your data is used solely to:

  • Reply to your messages
  • Manage registrations for Matariʻi workshops and events
  • Review and publish the events you submit
  • Send you confirmations related to your request
  • Send you the Matariʻi newsletter, if you have subscribed
  • Produce audience statistics for the website

Legal basis

Processing is based on your consent (Article 6.1.a GDPR), given by submitting a form or by confirming your newsletter subscription, and on the performance of a task carried out in the public interest (Article 6.1.e) as part of Te Fare Tauhiti Nui’s cultural mission.

Audience measurement is based on Te Fare Tauhiti Nui’s legitimate interest in understanding how its website is used (Article 6.1.f). It is set up under the conditions in which the CNIL exempts such measurement from consent: audience statistics only, no cookies, truncated IP address, data neither combined with other processing nor shared with third parties.

Recipients

Your data is intended only for the Te Fare Tauhiti Nui teams in charge of events and communication, and for its website management provider. It is never sold or passed on to third parties for commercial purposes.

To run the website, we use the following technical providers, all located in the United States:

  • Hostinger — hosting of the website and its data
  • Backblaze — website backups
  • Postmark (AC PM LLC) — sending of the website’s emails (acknowledgements, registration confirmations) and of the newsletter. Postmark participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and keeps message content for 45 days.
  • Matomo — audience measurement software installed on a server managed by the website management provider, at Hostinger. No data is sent to the Matomo publisher.

Audience measurement

The website measures its audience with Matomo, without setting any cookie. The following is recorded: pages viewed, visit duration, referring website or search engine, links followed to other websites and documents downloaded, device and browser type, language, country and city.

Your IP address is truncated before it is recorded (the last two numbers are masked); country and city are derived from the address at the time of the visit. No screen recording, no heatmaps, no tracking across other websites. Visit data is kept for 25 months at most; only aggregate statistics are kept beyond that.

You can opt out of this measurement at any time from our cookie policy.

Newsletter

Subscription takes two steps: you receive an email with a confirmation link, and you are only subscribed once you click it. Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. We measure newsletter opens and the links followed, to see which topics interest readers.

Data retention

  • Contact requests: 2 years after the last interaction
  • Event registrations: up to 6 months after the event, then anonymised for statistical purposes
  • Event submissions: 1 year after submission
  • Newsletter: as long as you are subscribed; your data is deleted on request after you unsubscribe
  • Audience measurement: 25 months at most for visit data
  • Backups: 30 days at most

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Right of access — obtain a copy of your data
  • Right to rectification — correct inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure — ask for your data to be deleted
  • Right to restriction of processing
  • Right to object to processing, including audience measurement
  • Right to data portability

To exercise these rights, write to communication.tftn@maisondelaculture.pf stating the purpose of your request. If we have reasonable doubts about your identity, we may ask you for proof of identity.

If, after contacting us, you believe your rights have not been respected, you may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL) — www.cnil.fr.

Data security

Te Fare Tauhiti Nui implements the technical and organisational measures needed to keep your data secure and confidential: secure hosting, HTTPS encryption, restricted access to data, strong passwords for website administrators, daily backups.
